Our Vision:

“By God’s grace, Grace Community Church will be a loving family, where lost folks can find God, where saved folks find nurture and friends in Christ, where all of us find meaningful ministry and are thus changed into people who faithfully follow Jesus Christ and thus enjoy the abundant life.”

Key Values:

  • Grace - The Body of believers called Grace Community Church will joyfully proclaim “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) Such unconditional love will be the basis of our relationships with God and one another.
  • Worshipping Community - Grace will actively adore the risen Christ. We will seek to keep in step with the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:25) as He moves the church upward in praise and worship.
  • A Loving Family - Grace is thankful “we are no longer strangers … but members of the family of God.” (Ephesians 2:19) We will accept people “as they are,” loving them as God has loved us. We will build deep friendships in Christ through our small groups, Sunday school classes, mission teams, youth groups, and men and women’s groups.
  • A Learning Center - Grace will seek to instruct one another (Romans 15:14) with truth from God’s word and other sources of edifying knowledge which will enable disciples of Christ to grow in their faith, living the abundant life Christ promised (John 10:10).
  • A Healing Place - Grace believes all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit witnessed in the New Testament are still operative in the believing church today (I Corinthians 14:1). We believe God’s healing graces released in prayer, laying on of hands, anointing with oil, anointed teaching of the scriptures, and Christ centered counseling can all bring healing to body, soul, and spirit. We believe the Holy Spirit gifts all Christians, but we do not believe that any one gift is universal evidence of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, and we encourage one another to daily infilling of the Spirit (John 7:37-39, Ephesians 5:19).
  • A Ministry Outpost - Grace recognizes we are all ministers in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 4:11, I Peter 3). We seek to help each member discover his or her spiritual gifts, be equipped for service, and then released into meaningful ministry. We believe these ministries will extend throughout Southern Illinois and into the world through our missions to which we tithe.
  • Compassion for the Poor - Grace, in remembering our Savior’s messianic claim in Luke 4:16-19, will strive to minister to the poor with supportive friendship, helps, jobs counseling, sacrificial gifts, and discipleship in Christ.
  • Partnership with the Family - Grace believes the family and the church are God’s plan for nurturing his people (Deuteronomy 6:6-9, Matthew 16:18). We want to serve alongside the family in helping children receive Christ Jesus by faith, disciple them in the ways of the Lord, and find meaningful service to Christ’s church.
  • Multiracial Family - Grace believes Christ knocked down the dividing wall between races (Ephesians 2:11-17). Grace seeks to become a congregation where all are welcome and we celebrate “there is neither Jew nor Gentile, but all are one in Christ” (Galatians. 3:28).
  • Both Men and Women Released for Servant-Leadership - Grace believes God’s original plan (Genesis. 1:26-28) was for men and women to “rule over the earth” together. We believe the Redeemer has brought His church into relationship with God so that “In the last days I will pour out my spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy.” (Acts 2:17) Thus both men and women are welcome to serve as pastors, elders and deacons as the Lord calls and gifts.
